When I first read the title of this post I thought "What, first harvest in MN!?!?" LOL. My chives are popping now too, I need to get out there and clean up the dead growth from last year. I was planning on working in the gardens this weekend....but now it'll be too cold.

I'm looking forward to reading future posts from you!
AmyAmy Andrychowiczhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04834295402269490621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146450914034502863.post-72484711988135060502011-04-14T18:12:48.110-07:002011-04-14T18:12:48.110-07:00Anything green from the garden makes me salivate t...Anything green from the garden makes me salivate this time of year. Nice chives. I have some coming up along with sorrel and some lost garlic I think the previous owners planted and wild leeks. It's all asking to be turned into a green sauce.Ottawa Gardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14486499450332482461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146450914034502863.post-15987566731678709032011-04-14T08:48:10.592-07:002011-04-14T08:48:10.592-07:00Daphne - I think you'll be able to harvest chi...Daphne - I think you'll be able to harvest chives soon enough. They grow really fast and through the entire season!

thyme2garden - Hope your chives grow well(like your cilantro!) Thanks for you offer of cilantro seeds. You're very kind! I was more interested in how you got them to grow so well(weather/fertilizer/soil etc.,) I do have seeds from a friend(whose cilantro grew 4-5 ft as well) and then I purchased a packet for 20c at Walmart, so I've planted both of them, waiting for them to sprout. Last year, the one from my friend bolted when it was 2-3 inches(: So I'm not sure what weather/soil it needs to grow 4-5ft. I've started early spring, this year, so hopefully it will grow well. Maybe it needs cool weather? I'll experiment, until I get it right. We love cilantro and cannot have enough of them!RandomGardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00634760100341475864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146450914034502863.post-41741165300511239642011-04-13T19:07:07.321-07:002011-04-13T19:07:07.321-07:00BTW, I collected cilantro seeds from my plants las...BTW, I collected cilantro seeds from my plants last year.
